Psychotherapy and Counselling

Thinking about starting to work with a therapist can be a daunting prospect (I remember my own experience). I invite you think about it as a really useful conversation with someone who offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to bring whatever you want to look at.

You might be prompted to think about therapy by a particular incident, by a relationship which is causing you pain or maybe it’s a more pervasive sense that something is not right or that you want to be different.

I've been a fully qualified therapist for nearly twenty years. My foundational training is in Person Centred therapy which really means that offering a safe space and building a trusting relationship are key to doing useful work.  I work use a variety of methods and approaches to suit you and your focus and which might include us looking at your history, childhood and links with the past, or focusing on the here and now of making sense of what’s going on for you in the present.

I believe that people have the resources and abilities within themselves to deal with their own difficulties. And also that an empathic ear and a supportive sounding board can help spot stuck places and unpick unhelpful patterns in thinking and doing and being.

Aside from all the jargon about modalities and types of therapy, the most important thing is that you feel you have a good fit with your therapist. Therapy is not always comfortable but it should feel safe and accepting.

I offer a chat on the phone to find out a little more about each other and whether we think we would be a good fit to work together.

Please email in the first instance and we can fix a convenient time.
